“U.S. President Trump has looked at climate change as a con job, so we can't rely on the U.S. anymore,” said Sorajak Kasemsuvan, former Vice Foreign Minister of Thailand, in an interview with 21st Century Business Herald at the 6th Symposium on Global Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance.
China and Thailand are closely cooperating on climate change issues. Kasemsuvan said that Thailand has imported many climate change-related technologies from China, such as solar energy system and electric vehicles. Currently, about 20% of cars in Thailand are Chinese electric vehicles, and the two countries will continue to maintain close cooperation to address the impact of climate change.
In recent years, the market share of Chinese car companies in Thailand has more than doubled, surging from 5% to about 20%, and the market share of new energy vehicles has exceeded 70%.
Not only in addressing climate change, but Thailand's relationship with China is very close and friendly in many aspects, Kasemsuvan added. “King Vajiralongkorn just visited China officially early last month and we have so many activities to celebrate our 50 years of diplomatic relationship.”
Sino-Thai economic and trade cooperation continues to deepen, and China has been Thailand's largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years. In the first half of 2025, the bilateral trade volume between China and Thailand reached US$76.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17%.
