The Chinese mainland on Sunday reported no new locally transmitted cases, which is the second straight day to return to zero local infections after a five-week battle, which had affected 47 cities across 19 provinces.

The latest outbreak, which began on July 20, when cleaners at a Nanjing airport tested positive, is the most severe since Covid-19 first hit the central city of Wuhan. Soon, more cases surfaced in Nanjing in every single day as citywide testings were conducted. At the same time, tourists in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, were confirmed being infected, the city soon became another epidemic centre after Nanjing. On July 28, Yangzhou notified the first confirmed case. Subsequently, the daily number increased, and in just 9 days, 162 cases were confirmed. A few days later, Zhengzhou in Henan province reported infections in hospital, and over 100 cases followed.

The Delta variant is again identified to be the culprit of the recent resurgence, which is posing a huge challenge to China's zero-case strategy. Cities involved rolled out mass testing, aggressive contact tracing and community lockdowns. Meanwhile, health experts are attempting to shore up confidence in the country's vaccination drive with leading virologist Zhong Nanshan saying "effective herd immunity" is on the horizon once over 80 percent of the population is vaccinated, a target likely achieved by year-end. As of Saturday, almost 2 billion vaccine doses have been administered, official figures showed.

The result shows China’s zero-case strategy has once again proved effective, and the country is poised to put economic recovery back in full gear. There’s no otherwise, in case you should wonder, what if China doesn’t take the zero-case approach? Well, just look around, I think you’ll come to your sense.

回顾一下这次涉及19省47地市的疫情。7月20日，南京禄口国际机场对工作人员开展核酸检测，发现有9份阳性，后经查源头系南京禄口机场承担客舱保洁服务的人员在客舱清扫过程中，接受到了境外输入病例的污染物。当地连夜对14万人进行核酸检测。22日起，南京连续出现多例，其中25-27日大量新增确诊。同时，全国各地陆续出现无南京机场旅居史的感染者，各种交集都聚焦在22日张家界的一场演出。由此，张家界成为此次疫情南京之后的又一传播次中心。7月29日，扬州通报昨日出现首例确诊病例。随后每日数量暴增，短短9日，扬州确诊162例病例，成为江苏省本轮疫情除南京外的第二个风暴眼。接着，郑州发现院内感染，关联上百例感染者。

面对德尔塔病毒步步紧逼，疫情防控防线越来越牢固。疫情发生以来，采取大规模核酸检测、封锁高中风险地区等高效防控举措，最大限度保障了人民健康和经济社会发展。疫苗节节上升的接种率也为防疫工作打下“强心剂”。钟南山表示，年底有望超过80%人口接种疫苗，获得“有效的群体免疫”。国家卫健委数据显示，截至周六，全国累计报告接种新冠病毒疫苗近20亿剂次。

中国的抗疫成效以及当前全球严峻的疫情形势都证明，坚持病毒“动态清零”战略是正确的，如果采取其他任何策略，我们不可能把病例数控制在医疗系统能够承受的范围内，甚至要跟经济复苏说拜拜了。

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) and four government bodies have issued new regulations to reduce the disorderly collection and illegal abuse of vehicle data and prevent auto data security risks. Companies must obtain an individual’s consent before collecting data only for the purpose of enhancing driving safety. Auto data must also be stored within the country. 

近日，五部门联合发布《汽车数据安全管理若干规定(试行)》(以下简称《规定》)，以进一步规范汽车数据处理活动，保护个人、组织的合法权益。《规定》明确，汽车数据处理者应当通过显著方式告知个人相关信息，取得个人同意或者符合法律、行政法规规定的其他情形。《规定》强调，汽车数据处理者开展重要数据处理活动，应当遵守依法在境内存储的规定。

North China Pharmaceutical, one of China's biggest pharmaceutical company, plummeted nearly 10 percent today to close at 9.11 yuan, after the State Joint Procurement Office announced last Friday that the company failed to supply the Ibuprofen sustained-release capsules to the agreed volume as the selected company in the third batch of centralized drug procurement program, thus cancelling its eligibility to the procurement program for the next nine months.

中国最大的化学制药企业之一，A股上市公司华北制药今天一字跌停至9.11元，收跌9.98%。8月20日，第三批国家组织药品集中采购品种布洛芬缓释胶囊的中选企业华北制药，在山东省未能按协议供应约定采购量，华北制药收到国家药品集采首张“断供罚单”，被列入“违规名单”，未来9个月不能参与国家药品集中采购活动。

Tencent Holdings, China’s most valuable company at $697 billion, ranked sixth in the 2021 Hurun Global 500 list published last Friday, while Apple took the top spot. The United States dominates the rankings with 243 businesses, while there were 47 companies from China.  

8月20日，胡润研究院发布《2021胡润世界500强排行榜》，苹果公司以15.8万亿价值蝉联榜首。中国企业排名第一的仍然是腾讯，以4.5万亿排名世界第六。美国共有243家企业上榜；中国则共有47家企业上榜。

Ansteel Group and Ben Gang Group, two of the biggest state-owned steelmakers in northeast China, have started the process of merging their businesses to create the world's third-largest crude steel producer with an annual capacity of 63 million tons of the metal. 

8月20日，鞍钢重组本钢大会在辽宁省鞍山市召开。辽宁省国资委将所持本钢51%股权无偿划转给鞍钢，本钢成为鞍钢的控股子企业。重组后，鞍钢粗钢产能将达6300万吨，营业收入达3000亿元，位居国内第二、世界第三。

Bilibili’s shares rebounded 5.97 percent to HK$523.5 today after last week’s slump. The Chinese video-sharing platform’s net loss widened 96.5 percent in the second quarter from the same period last year, according to the financial results it released last Thursday. (Yicai)

哔哩哔哩股价今日反弹5.97%，收报523.5港元。8月19日，哔哩哔哩发布2021年第二季度财报，净亏损扩大至11.218亿元，比上年同期多接近一倍。

Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index close 1.45 percent higher at 3477 points. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.98 percent at 14535 points. The Hang Seng Index rebounded 1.05 percent to stand at 25109 points.
